We are going to do something likely useless here and attempt to use rationality to appeal to a non-rational actor (you). More on your rationality at the end.
First, today we read in the Dallas Morning News that famous ex-SEAL sniper Chris Kyle has been shot and killed at a shooting range. How does this fit with your talking points that possessing weapons and knowing how to use them will prevent gun violence? Mr. Kyle was one of the most deadly shots alive, we have read. Yet, he is now dead, at the hands of someone else's firearm.
Second, today on Fox News, the following transpired:
Chris Wallace asked [you] on "Fox News Sunday" if [you] regretted airing a controversial TV ad in which the NRA went after President Obama for providing armed security to his daughters but not supporting their proposal to put armed guards in all schools. We know that no appeal to decency works with the NRA, so we won't waste any time on that route. However, you have a lot of nerve to invoke Newtown, sir.
"They also face a threat that most children do not face," Wallace said of Obama's daughters.
"Tell that to the people in Newtown," [you] responded.
"You really think that the president's children are the same kind of target as every other school child in America?" Wallace said. "That's ridiculous and you know it, sir."
Were you to have the capacity for moral self-reflection, you'd know that.
Were you to truly have the courage of your conviction enough to come up here to CT and say the things you say about Newtown from the safety of Washington, DC, then maybe you could be offered a pass for invoking Newtown. Sturm Ruger's campaign from CT is stunningly heartless and tactless, but at least it takes some courage to be that heartless and tactless.
However, you have neither the capability of moral self-reflection nor any true courage of conviction.
What you do have, sir, is what makes you a rational (goal-oriented) actor: selfishness and greed. You have unlimited selfishness that provokes you to detest compromise in the interest of your society, including the lives of children. You also have the unlimited greed, like the folks at Sturm Ruger, to do anything to keep afloat the profits that come on the backs of thousands of lost innocent lives each year. You do anything that serves your selfishness and greed. Evidently, your family lives outside the United States, because your actions in blocking attempts to reduce senseless gun violence endanger their lives each day.
Rationality is not necessarily equivalent to sanity or morality. You sir, are a disgusting example of this.
